Water Pollution Lawyers Serving De Soto Parish
The Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer is one of the main water sources for De Soto Parish. The aquifer includes artesian water sources that are confined beneath the earth, and other water table sources that are not confined. According to a Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development report, there were 1,384 active water wells that make up the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer in 2010. 1,239 of these were domestic water supplies, 81 were public water supplies, 39 were used for irrigation purposes, and another 25 were used for industrial purposes.
On September 7, 2018, it was announced by the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources that natural gas had been detected and had entered into the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer. It is believed that the natural gas has made its way into the water table and several oil and natural gas companies in the area have been named and have been called upon to provide additional information about the source of the natural gas intrusion. This investigation is ongoing, with the most recent update provided on November 2, 2018, requesting any additional information that several natural gas companies might have about how the natural gas might have made its way into the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer. Officials are looking into the source of the contamination and pollution.
According to KTBS, benzene has been detected in water samples taken from the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer. Already, 50 people have pursued a lawsuit against oil and gas companies in area, claiming that activities from these companies has led to the contamination of their property. Videos provided to KTBS show incidents where water has been filmed shooting into the air and where formerly calm waters appear to be bubbling. Property owners allege that oil and natural gas companies were aware of the issues and didn’t take proper responsibility for the pollution. Property owners are understandably concerned that this pollution may have spoiled the land. Others are also concerned about the pollution that may have affected the water supply.
